Looking Back to Move Forward

As the year came to a close, our family had the chance to spend another Christmas season in one of our favorite places: Disney World. The lights were brighter, the music a little cheerier, and the spirit of the holidays felt even more special this time around.

But what really made this trip meaningful wasn’t a new ride or another round of churros. It was the chance to reflect. Between the excitement of the Christmas parade and meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus, we found space to look back on everything the year brought us. For Lily, it was a year full of firsts, new adventures, new friendships, and new challenges met with courage. For us as a family, it was a reminder of how fast time moves and how important it is to pause and appreciate the moments.

It is easy to rush from one goal to the next, especially in business. There is always another project, another quarter, or another problem to solve. But December offers a natural pause. It gives us the opportunity to look back and measure more than just revenue or productivity. It is a chance to reflect on growth, lessons learned, and the relationships that made the journey worthwhile.

This season, we chose to slow down. We let the days linger. We watched Lily light up with joy as she shared a hot chocolate with friends and waved at Mickey in his Christmas best. These are the moments that refuel us for the year ahead.

As business owners and leaders, we should make space for this kind of reflection. Take a few minutes to ask: What worked well this year? What would I change? Who helped me grow? And what am I most proud of?

The answers may not come with fireworks or fanfare, but they help shape what comes next. Just like Lily learning something new each month, we are all building on experiences that guide the future.

So here’s to a season of rest, joy, and gratitude. Celebrate your progress. Appreciate your people. And step into the new year with the clarity that only reflection can bring.
