Lessons with Lily – Chill Out Dude
This month, Lily reminded me of something simple that adults, especially business owners, tend to forget.
We were enjoying a warm afternoon outside, and Lily had claimed her favorite spot for relaxing. Sunglasses on, stretched out in a hammock, completely at ease. No schedule. No rush. Just enjoying the moment.
At one point I asked her what she was doing, and without missing a beat she said, “Just chillin’ out, dude.”
It made me laugh, but it also made me think.
In business, we spend a lot of time pushing forward. There are deadlines, goals, client needs, and endless decisions to make. It often feels like if we slow down even a little, things might fall apart. So we keep moving. We keep grinding. We keep stacking the next task on top of the last one.

But sometimes the best thing we can do is step back for a moment.
Rest isn’t laziness. It’s maintenance.
Just like a business strategy needs time to develop and a team needs space to think clearly, our minds also need moments where we step away from the pressure. When we create that space, we often come back with clearer thinking, better ideas, and a healthier perspective on what actually matters.
Lily wasn’t worried about tomorrow’s plans. She wasn’t trying to solve next week’s problems. She was simply enjoying the moment and letting her mind relax.
There is a lot of wisdom in that.
So here is the lesson Lily offered this month. Every once in a while, give yourself permission to pause. Step away from the noise, take a breath, and reset your perspective.
In other words, sometimes the best business advice is simple.
Chill out, dude.
