Lessons with Lily: A Day Just for Mom
Mother’s Day is always a special time, but this year’s celebration came with a simple and meaningful lesson—sometimes the best way to show love is by putting someone else first.

We spent the day celebrating Kayla at the Hershey Lodge, starting with a nice dinner and then filling the afternoon with things Mom enjoys—like walking through gift shops, getting a coffee, and relaxing by the pool. Now, none of those activities would’ve topped Lily’s personal list (she would’ve much rather been at the arcade or playing games), but she embraced the spirit of the day without hesitation.
Lily understood that Mother’s Day wasn’t about her preferences – it was about making Mom feel appreciated, supported, and seen. She held Kayla’s hand, asked thoughtful questions, and even patiently browsed the shops without once asking when we were leaving.
It reminded me how important it is in leadership, business, and life to sometimes take a step back from your own goals to support others in theirs. Whether you’re helping a colleague shine, listening instead of speaking, or just letting someone else steer for a bit—it matters. It builds trust, strengthens relationships, and creates space for gratitude to grow.
This month’s lesson from Lily is simple: love shows up in quiet ways. In listening, supporting, and choosing someone else’s joy over your own. That’s how you build great families—and great teams.
